Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate in the field of stakeholder engagement/STS for the project “PANDORA, Paradigm for New Dynamic Ocean Resource As- sessments and Exploitation”. The position commences on May 1, 2018. The position is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 50% of standard work hours per week. The position is offered for three years but an extension is possible.
The project will explore and reflect on approaches to engage stakeholders in fisheries sciences. The project will study how different stakeholders (industry, policymakers and scientists) relate to data collection, data generation and model building in fisheries science and management in the five PANDORA case study regions across Europe. The research employs qualitative social science research methods such as interviews and focus groups. The project will foster public dialogue and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities: The research associate will be expected primarily to conduct research and to engage fisheries stakeholders (industry, policymakers and scientists). The associate will have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation.
Specific Duties: The successful candidate will develop and actively pursue a research project on transdiscipli- nary stakeholder engagement. The researcher is responsible for engaging fisheries stakehold- ers by project partners across Europe, and preparing reports and peer-reviewed articles on out- comes of PANDORA stakeholder engagement. Active engagement with stakeholders in the pro- ject regions as well as cooperation with scientists from different disciplines is expected.
Requirements: master’s degree in sociology, Science and Technology Studies, communication studies or an interdisciplinary marine science/social science background; excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to work proactively in an inter- and transdisciplinary team. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder (industry and/or policy) engagement is preferred; strong interpersonal and organisational skills; previous experience in the field of marine science (preferred but not required).
