The Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Stuttgart is seeking to hire 3 researchers in social
sciences. We are looking for

3 Doctoral Researchers (m/f/d)
(E13 TVL 65%)

to conduct research at the Chair of Sociology of Technology, Risk and Environment (SoWi V) on projects in the Cluster of Excellence „Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture” (IntCDC; funded by the German Research Council). The research projects investigate how digital and cyber-physical design and construction can contribute to more sustainable architecture in the existing building stock. The advertised positions relate to the study of

a) sustainability and quality expectations in urban design, their identification and integration,
b) changing human-machine interactions when dealing with digital interfaces, construction robotics and VR/AR on the construction site,
c) the role of novel forms of visual communication between architects, decision-makers and the
public involved.

The overall focus of our social science research is on the investigation of societal expectations of new

For the upcoming IntCDC network phase starting on July 1, 2022, we are looking for social scientists
with a special interest in sociotechnical transformation processes, digitalisation and automation, and
with interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. The doctoral research positions are initially limited to 3
years (an extension is possible). We value teamwork, mutual support and a high level of motivation
for joint conceptual and methodological development in the research. The Cluster of Excellence offers

We expect:
• a very good university degree (Master/Diplom) in sociology, science and technology studies, political sciences, human geography or related courses of studies,
• interest in research into the social conditions and implications of new developments in technology
and architecture,
• excellent spoken and written English and German skills,
• an independent working style and capacity for teamwork.

Your tasks will be:
• conducting and evaluation of empirical studies, case studies, expert interviews and dialogues. Depending on the position a-c, this includes conducting and the realization of an Expert Delphi, conducting stakeholder interviews and their qualitative analysis, and media analysis (controversy
mapping).
• interdisciplinary work on research questions, organisation of team meetings
• internal and external presentation of research results and their publication
